On the weekend of April 20th and 21st, we host a special day event at Kasheme – the Records Store Weekender. From 2pm on, you are invited to come spend the afternoon with us and look through Kasheme’s own exquisite record collection.
Let’s open the windows and let the sun shine into our Livingroom for a little afternoon boogie dance with the Kasheme Sound DJ Gang on Saturday.
On Sunday, there will be a Holy Listening Session with house DJ and producer Ron Trent from Chicago.
This month we had the honour to interwiev Chicago born jazz multi-instrumentalist and composer Kahil El’Zabar. Born in 1953, the talented percussionist collaborated with musical legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Paul Simon, Pharoah Sanders, and many others. El’Zabar continues to mesmerize audiences worldwide with his meditative yet invigorating sound, aiming to promote wellness and spiritual empowerment through his music. With his main musical groups the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and the Ritual Trio, he released more than 30 albums.
In our conversation, Kahil shares about his latest album A Time for Healing and how he, as a young jazz musician got connected with the DJ culture back in the 80ies.
Easter means not only that spring is here now but also for many of you it means a long weekend off! That’s why we adjusted our opening hours for the weekend of 28 – 31/03/24 and curated a special musical program with all three floors open not only on Friday and Satruday but also on Thursday and Sunday.
On top of that look forward to musical highlights like our local residents Kalabrese, Lexx, Ajele, Ms Hyde and J’peux Tim as well as international guests like Pete on the Corner form London and Chesney Tropicale from Cologne.
Also, this will be your last change to enjoy the chill Kasheme vibe in the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. From April on, we open at 5pm again.

In the first edition of our KASHEME CONVERSATION interview series we sat down with Luke Una. As a DJ, a part of the Unabombers and as promoter of the legendary Electric Chair nights, Homoelectric, Electric Elephant Festival and Homobloc, Luke Una was not only contributing massively to Manchester’s 80s and 90s club scene but still carries a deep passion to share his music in clubs around the world. He is the curator of seminal compilations such as the Electric Chair and Electric Soul series, as well as his latest É Soul Cultura project and label.
In our conversation, Una shares what caused his relentless pursuit of music, why he would not call himself a record collector and why he is, as he calls it, so evangelical about music.

On the weekend of February 16th and 17th Spirit Music Society (SMS), in collaboration with Moods and Kasheme invites us to celebrate the 10th anniversary of 22a, a respected independent label in the UK underground music scene.
The weekend starts with a live performance by Ruby Rushton at Moods. The Tenderlonious-led jazz quartet is renowned for their eclectic style with influences from hip hop, Afrobeat, bebop and jazz-funk.
On Saturday, lable founder Tenderlonious and Dennis Ayler will both play a DJ Set at Kasheme, exploring 22a’s rich catalog with 45+ releases, including house, hip hop, jazz, garage, soul, Indian classical and jungle.

From this month on a new event series is launched at Kasheme. With Crate Excursions Pat, a Kasheme resident DJ and record collector for over three decades, opens a space for listening and personal storytelling.
Every month he will invite music lovers who will present an album that means a lot to them and share their personal stories and anecdotes around this particular record. Exciting stories and musical discoveries guaranteed!
The first evening belongs to the Lucerne DJ legend Miss Brownsugar.

Seventeen years have passed since OutKast’s last major release. The greater was the excitement when Andre 3000 announced his first ever solo album in November 2023. Shortly after we were all gifted with something nobody expected. An album with no bars, flows, words, vocals or lyrics but something else: the room to fill in the blanks with your own perceptions.
“New Blue Sun” hypnotizes us with 87 minutes of flutes, bells, chimes, and other diverse instruments produced by Andre, Carlos Niño & Friends. It is a mesmerizing chain of soundscapes that can fit more than one purpose. It doesn’t give you what you want, it offers what we all need: a reminder to calm down, embrace change, and to stay curious when facing the unfamiliar.

We all still remember that night, when we set up two record players on the floor and covered the whole Studio floor with carpets and cushions, leaned back and let ourselves be taken on a unforgettable listening journey. Donna Leake, a young selector from London, created for us a space outside of time. With her diverse and truly captivating selection from jazz to psychedelic rock, from reggae to soul and beyond, and her visible love and passion for music, she undeniably played herself into all of our hearts.
We are extraordinarily excited to have Donna back at Kasheme this January.

Spirit Music Society, in collaboration with Moods and Kasheme, curates a musical extravaganza in Zurich from December 28th to 30th 2023. The Okino brothers of Kyoto Jazz Massive make their Zurich debut with the Echos Of A New Dawn Orchestra in a not-to-be-missed concert at Moods on the 28th of December.
Through this collaboration we look forward to have Shuya Okino and Dom Servini play a DJ set in our Livingroom.

For the third time the Swiss-Albanian jazz singer Elina Duni performs at Kasheme this December. With her partner and guitarist Rob Luft she carries her audience away with dreamy, poetic, sometimes melancholic, sometimes joyful compositions.
On their new album A time to remember which was released in 2023 on ECM Records, Duni sings in Albanian, French and English which expresses her rootedness in different countries and cultures. Weaving together Jazz, Albanian and French folk music, Duni & Luft’s sound is beautifully unique.

Good news! From December on, we open our doors at 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. This allows you to experience Kasheme by daylight and when it’s less busy. Come enjoy the laid back vibes, catch up with your friends over a Glühwein after Christmas shopping, or bring your family for an early Apéro before dinner.
Also, our musical program will generally start a bit earlier in the cold months. So make sure to show up in time ;).

The UK trumpeter, producer and composer Matthew Halsall is coming to Zurich this autumn. Inspired by no less than Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, Halsall is maybe the most influential spiritual jazz artist of our generation. His calm, vast and meditative compositions are truly transcendental. The kind of Sound that brings peace, harmony and depth into every space. Therefore it is a tremendous honour to have Matthew playing a DJ-Set at Kasheme at the end of the month.

This album tells the story of an experience many of us know – traveling far and yet finding a sense of being home at a place where we might be a total stranger. Summer has definitely passed by now but Melodiesinfonie’s latest album brings the sun back into our living rooms. Released in the middle of summer, the soft, mellow vibe of ‘Softboi’ now makes us reminisce about these hot days by the water, laying in the grass, licking ice-cream and just not taking life too seriously.
